Rocky Pool Guest Lodge, Warner Beach, South Coast, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

The hospitality received from our hosts was definitely 5 star! They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and accommodate a few special requests.

After the last bad experience that we had (http://ontheroadagainwithsandyfeet.blogspot.co.za/2017/05/pay-back-money-treehouse-river-lodge.html) the service we received was such a wonderful surprise!

We booked The Penthouse for the weekend and we were completely wowed by the amazing view, which can be enjoyed from the lovely wooden deck, lounge and main bedroom.

View from The Penthouse

The kitchen was spacious and very well equipped, in all our travels, this is the second place we've ever stayed that has provided a colander!

Kitchen - spacious and well equipped
When we were not at the beach (which is just a short drive from the unit), we relaxed on the deck and enjoyed watching an amazing array of birds flit by - we even spotted a Giant Kingfisher!

We also had the most incredible moon rise on the Friday night, it came up right in front of the deck and felt close enough to touch!

Comfortable couches and full dstv complete the lounge which also has an additional single bed if you travel in a group / family and leads through to your own personal bar!

The bathroom had a bath, toilet basin and a fantastic shower that heated up really quickly, all that was missing was a fluffy bath mat. (A rubber non slip mat was provided but did not help with the water).

We were a bit concerned about the fact that the unit is right above where the owner's stay but privacy was definitely not an issue at all, we did not see or hear anyone else the entire weekend.

Not so great features:

* We did not use the pool at all as it is shaded most of the day and also right next to the 'Cottage'  - a smaller wooden unit at the end of the garden

* Even though the unit is three roads back from the highway, you can hear the traffic from the deck. This was not an issue when inside however and did not disturb our sleep at all.

Price:

Less than R500 per person.

Honeywood, Sea Park, South Coast, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa

I can't really say much about the place, even though it was our second trip together (September 2013) it was not very memorable.

The unit is comfortable enough with a double bed downstairs and two singles upstairs and two bathrooms.

The outdoor furniture however was not conducive to relaxation being a hard wooden bench set.

Kitchen was basic but equipped for a self catering stay.

Overall not a bad place just make sure you check the inventory list when you arrive as there was a towel missing from our unit (we only noticed when we checked the list at the end of our stay) and when we advised the owner, we were looked with suspicion!

Great features:

* Two bathrooms
* Lovely tub in the one bathroom not that you can use it with the on-going drought

Not so great features:

* The outdoor area is mostly shaded cannot be enjoyed from the hard bench

The husband was alright but the wife was  not very welcoming at all.
