Lake Eland Game Reserve, KZN, South Africa

You don't have to go all the way up the coast to find wild animals, we have this fantastic reserve right on our doorstep! 

We saw so many animals right in front of our cabin, as well as on the sides of the road when you drive to the zipline / suspension bridge. 

The units are very well maintained and clean with everything you need (and more) for a self catering trip - comfortable beds, quality linen, a massive corner bath, shower, all the kitchen essentials. 

The view is absolutely amazing and we loved the frogs singing to us all night. There is so much to do on the reserve you can never be bored!

It is also ideal for just relaxing though, you can spend hours just sitting on the deck listening to the birds and insects. 

One of our favourite places, we visited for one night in August this year (2015) and again in October because there was still so much to see and do. 

Definitely a great place to go to just get away from the stress of city life and find some peace. 

We would recommend if you are going as a couple, ask for a unit by the second lake (this is further away from the on-site restaurant and entertainment area for the kids). 

Great features:

* Clean, comfortable accommodation with all the necessities.

* Abundance of wildlife - right in front of your cabin!

* Lots of view sites and activities - suspension bridge, zipline, paint ball, picnic sites and more

* Absolute peace and quiet - only the sounds of nature (in off-peak season anyway, not sure what it's like when the kids are on holiday)

* On-site restaurant with reasonably priced meals and quite a few vegetarian options - the burger is fantastic and so are the chips!

Not so great features:

* I cannot think of one thing we don't like about this place, it's just a pity that it is more expensive to stay over the weekend so we always go for the Sunday night

Price: Very reasonable during off-peak

Would we go back: Most definitely, we still haven't seen all there is to see!

Recommended for: Any and everybody who - enjoys and appreciates nature / needs some rest and relaxation.
